Void Elf RP Guide

This is a combination of guides and general advice on how to understand the basics of the Ren'dorei lore and how best to roleplay one. As Blizzard Entertainment has not given us much to work with, a lot of what is found below does relate to their previous cultures as Quel'dorei & Sin'dorei. This guide hopes to help the community as a whole if possible and is not meant to be exclusive for our guild. Feel free to share. Work in Progress!

Helpful Videos

Firstly, it's important to keep in mind where the Ren'dorei are rooted from. For this reason, I have chosen several excellent videos to help bring a person more deeply into the lore. These were done by Nobbel87 and Doronsmovies on YouTube.

This one on the left discusses what the differences between all of the elven races are and how elves originally came to existence. Note that there is not a lot to be said in regards to the Ren'dorei. Given their recent creation, they still relate mostly to the Sin'dorei and Quel'dorei.

Below is a full comprehensive history of the Story of Kael'thas, but it does relate well to the Sin'dorei as a whole. Additionally, Doronsmovies has an excellent tutorial on making a BElf RP character. This is helpful in determining who your character might have been before the change.

Identifying Your Origins

All Thalassian elves, or elves descended from Quel'thalas, were all at one point Quel'dorei or the High Elves. However, the split between the Quel'dorei and the newly formed Sin'dorei. Magister Umbric and his followers were exiled Sin'dorei, so this tells us that the first wave of the  Ren'dorei were part of them. While we do not know for certain when the exile took place, there are two possible theories.

For one, Umbric might have been exiled very soon after the assault on Silvermoon by Arthas and after they had became Sin'dorei. Though not confirmed, it's generally accepted that they more likely were exiled following the restoration of the sunwell with more holy energy. At this point in time, warlocks were starting to be shunned a little bit more and the void would have been seen as something evil by the growing light influence in Quel'thalas.

This is important for determining when you might have been exiled to become a void elf if you take the traditional route. If one of Umbric's first followers, we can safely assume you've not been around since at least Wrath of the Lich King.

However, you might have also came in as a later follower throughout the years. In fact, to this day, they continue to take in more disciples to research the void. The Ren'dorei have also made the addition of accepting both High Elf and Blood Elf scholars.

For this reason, you might be roleplaying a Blood Elf or a High Elf today. A process can be done to make the transition into becoming a Void Elf should you choose to embrace the power. This transition would infuse you and rip away likely all connection previously had with the light.

Age and Maturity

A term often thrown around when it comes to age is “human years.” Basically someone equating their elf’s age to that of a human. “Oh she is roughly twenty-five in human years.” In reality, human and Thalassian years are exactly the same. A Thalassian elf will experience a single year the same way a human would, simple as that.

The big difference being that an elf will live far beyond a human’s expected lifespan, or they will begin to age past their prime much slower. This in turn means they will always outlive their human or non-elven friends. Unless that friend is a Draenei.

What does maturity look like for an elf? In Thalassian society an individual is not fully considered an adult until they reach around sixty to one hundred ten years old, mostly depending on how they choose to present themselves in society up to that point.

From there, they tend to carry on with their individual life, now being respected and treated like an adult rather than a child in the eyes of their peers. It is important that age range in mind when playing a younger elf, especially if you feel they are not being treated as an adult.
